Sapp was one of the early masters of the R&B/soul of the '60s. His hit "Stop! In the Name of Love" and "My Girl" were big songs when R&B was a minor genre in the '70s. In 1986 he returned with a best-selling gospel album, "Amazing Grace," which remained on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart for 41 weeks.
